June is national safety month. In the spirit of keeping employees healthy, here are some tips to create a safe working environment - minimal effort involved!
1. Take Regular Breaks
We know it's hard when there's a deadline to be met, but many work-related injuries occur when an employee is tired. Those breaks are there for a reason; so use them!
2. Think Posture
Many of us are aware of the dangers an industrial environment can provide, but rarely think about the hazards of a standard office. If you're at a desk all day, make sure keep your shoulders in line with your hips to avoid back problems. If possible, ask your employer about ergonomic furniture options.
3. Keep Your Space Uncluttered
This seems like a no brainer. If an emergency should take place, it's important that bags are not obstructing exits. Create a space for your loose items at your desk. If you can, invest in organizers.
4. Use Mechanical Aids
We know that the copy paper doesn't look heavy, but trust us it is. If you have a cart or lift, make sure to use it. It's better then a trip to the chiropractor.
5. Report ANY Possible Hazards
Did you notice a light sparking? Part of a creating safe workplace is being responsible. Remember that we all play a part in creating a healthy working environment!
